A WORK club that was lost when eVOLution in Darlington closed has been re opened at one of the town's churches.

Northgate Work Club, which is being held at Northgate United Reformed Church in Darlington, has been set up to give unemployed people in the town the tools they need to find a job.

The club offers services such as writing CVs, improving people’s literacy skills and using computers.

Church secretary, Maranny Jones said: “I’m chairman of Churches Together in Darlington and we worked closely with eVOLution and when eVOLution was closing, I went to see if there were any of the things that they did that Churches Together could help with, and one of them was the work club.”

“At that time we had a computer class Thursdays and Fridays, so that seemed something that we could takeover."

Mrs Jones hopes that the work club will see people finding jobs, as well as more people coming along to use the facilities.

She also talked about how she wants the people of Darlington to react to the work club, saying: “Well I hope they will be happy that we are here to help. "That we’re not just a church who meets on a Sunday, that we want to do out bit within the community, and as people being out of work is a big thing, we feel that this is what we should be doing.”

The work club is staffed by volunteers from Northgate United Reformed Church as well as other churches, and runs on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9.30am to 11:30am.
