COMMUNITY groups in Crook are hosting a festive event this Sunday (November 29).

Santa arrives in Hope Street at noon and a winter wonderland parade down Hope Street begins at 4.30pm while the Christmas lights will be switched on in North Terrace at 5pm.

Helen Ward, of Jack Drum Arts, said: “It’s a real community event put on by a small group of local people who want to do something nice for the people of Crook.”

Street entertainers will perform throughout the day and visit three residential homes.

The Salvation Army will be in town with a memorial tree between 11am and 2pm and service at 12.30pm.

A funfair and stalls will be in Market Place and a Christmas market and craft fair in St Catherine’s Community Centre, 11am to 4pm.

There will be brass entertainment in St Catherine’s Church at 3pm and a carol service at 3.30pm.

St Andrew’s Methodist Church will hold a Christmas foliage display, noon to 3pm, a brass concert at 1.30pm, and a market and craft fair with lantern-making workshops in its hall, 11.30am to 4pm.

Crook Cricket Club will host events including Santa’s grotto, laser clay shooting and a penalty shootout, 12.30pm to 5.30pm.
