TWO bus passengers suffered minor injuries when a double decker collided with a railway bridge in County Durham on Monday night.

The incident took place in Metal Bridge, near Spennymoor at 8pm.

Durham Police said two passengers on the bus suffered minor whiplash injuries.

The bus was left with a cracked windscreen, but there was no structural damage to the bridge.

Trains on the East Coast Main Line continued to run under a speed restriction until an engineer from Network Rail had examined the bridge.

A spokeswoman confirmed that nine trains were delayed as a result of the incident, and said services were back to normal by 9pm.
