AROUND 100 young people attended a careers conference organised by a sixth former.
Jessica Watson, a student at Framwellgate School Durham, organised the Science Saves Lives event at the Sjovoll Centre, Pity Me, to encourage her peers to consider a career in medicine.
Experts from Sheffield Hallam University helped stage workshops and a cancer survivor spoke about the impact of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Jessica, who hopes to become a doctor, said: “I aimed this event at inspiring more students into STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) careers as inspiring young people is something that I am very passionate about.
“I worked with a mentor Melanie Clarkson who is a radiographer last year and she inspired me to create this event.
“I was overwhelmed by the amount of interest and I am thrilled that so many young people in the North-East are also considering a career in the medical profession.”
