MEMBERS of legendary Sixties bands The Troggs and The Animals were among the performers at a 12-hour music marathon in a North-East village.

An all-star line-up of rock stars performed throughout the day during a musical charity extravaganza at The Durham Ox pub, in Coundon, County Durham, on Saturday, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

John Steel, drummer with The Animals, headlined the event, which also included Chris Allen, lead singer with The Troggs, Jerry Donahue of the Yardbirds and Eric Haydock of the Hollies.

Many local acts also performed, including an Elvis impersonator, a Stylistics tribute and a duo called The King and I.

The one-off event was organised by Peter Barton of Rock Artist Management, Kevin Marley, Ray Hornsby and his son-in-law Philip Nevison.

Mr Hornsby, who is regular customer at the pub, decided to raise money for Macmillan after the death of his wife Sheila, in October 2012, as a thank-you for the care she received from the charity.
