POLICE are treating the death of a 22-month-old old boy as suspicious.
Officers were waiting the results of a post-mortem before deciding what action to take.
An ambulance was sent to Maple Avenue in Scarborough, North Yorkshire for the 22-month-old boy. A neighbour spotted a person carrying a child in the area at about 4pm on Wednesday and called the emergency services.
The child was taken to Scarborough Hospital and was later transferred by air ambulance to Hull Royal Infirmary where he died in the early hours of Thursday morning.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said the coroner had been informed. A post-mortem examination was due to carried out today.
He said: "The child is not being named at this time. The circumstances are still unclear and subject to an ongoing investigation."
A woman saw the ambulance arrive. She said: "They took a bairn out of the house. They were they for about two minutes. They brought him straight out and put him in the ambulance."
