MEMBERS of the public flocked to be part of a Lumiere artwork.

Residents and visitors to Durham were invited to be filmed crawling along a green screen for Spanish artist Daniel Canogar’s Asalto Durham installation.

The resulting footage will be projected onto the city’s viaduct so it appears dozens of people are climbing up the huge brick arches when Lumiere begins on Thursday night (November 12).

Those taking part included runners, firefighters and Vicky Prendergast, who wore her wedding dress for the occasion.

Elsewhere, work has begun to install artworks for the four-night light festival.

The fibres for Janet Echelman’s 1.26 Durham, a floating net above the River Wear, have been put in place.

Lumiere guides are now available from city centre shops, for a minimum donation of £1.

The installations will be free to view, although tickets to access the central zone each evening from 4.30pm to 7.30pm have all gone.
