A SCHOOLGIRL will see her dream cake on sale at a city tearoom after she won a baking contest.

Isabella Jones won the Bake Off-style competition at Belmont Cheveley Park Primary School and her sunflower design, with lime and coconut flavours, will be baked and sold at Tealicious, on Elvet Bridge, during the school half-term holiday.

All pupils in years two to six were invited to design a cake and the best four entries were selected to be baked at Tealicious on Monday (October 12).

Councillor Bill Moir, the Deputy Mayor of Durham, and Adam Deathe, business engagement manager at Durham Business Improvement District, picked the winner in school on Tuesday (October 13).

As well as seeing her creation on sale, Isabella also wins afternoon tea at Tealicious for her family.

The other finalists were Ayla Malia, Ben Riddell and Ben Wardle.

Head teacher Mark Dent said: “This is about experiencing the world of work and also showing the children that cooking can be fun.

“It’s about raising aspirations so that the children know they can be whatever they want to be.”

It was the third year the competition had been staged.
