A NEW exhibition of evocative images of the region and its industry and landscape has opened at the Joe Cornish Gallery in Northallerton.

Dark Visions, by Rob Knight, is a collection of black and white photographs taken over the past five years, but includes a haunting image of the SSI steelworks at Redcar taken following the collapse of the business.

Mr Knight has been a photographer for 30 years, and made a name photographing music acts such as Oasis, Paul Weller and The Bluetones as well as landscapes and seascapes.

A spokesman for the gallery said: "Rob felt he had to do some images of the steelworks for the exhibition when he heard what was happening, so they were a later addition, and an important contribution.

"The monochrome images that comprise Dark Visions are part of Rob’s project exploring how personal interpretations of the environment define creative vision.

“To distil his personal vision, Rob has drawn on his own experiences and passions to shape the way he interprets and portrays the landscape.

"His working method illuminates the way in which we all inhabit and impact on, but are also shaped by, the awesome power of nature.”
