A CAR which caught fire closed the northbound A19 for almost two-and-a-half hours this morning.
It is understood the Ford Fiesta had earlier been involved in an accident with a Vauxhall Astra close to the A1027 Norton/Billingham junction at 7.49am.
No-one was reported to have been injured.
Two fire crews from Billingham and Stockton extinguished the flames but the road was closed until 10.20am while the wreckage was removed and repairs carried out to the heat-damaged road surface.
