POLICE have named a 22-year-old worker who died in a quarry accident.
Northumbria Police said Adam Donaldson was the man who died in a "fatal industrial accident" at Harden Quarry, Biddlestone, Northumberland.
Five ambulances, three fire crews and a specialist rescue unit were called to the scene, as well as police officers, at around 10.40am on Wednesday.
Unconfirmed reports said a tractor fell 50ft and may have burst into flames.
The Health and Safety Executive and the police have launched an investigation, and experts remained at the scene in the remote countryside near Rothbury.
County Councillor Steven Bridgett said: "We are a close-knit community in Coquetdale and on behalf of the residents of the valley I would like to offer our deepest sympathy to the bereaved family."
The quarry is operated by the construction firm Lafarge Tarmac.
A spokesman for Tarmac said: "We can confirm with great sadness that our colleague, Adam Donaldson, working for a contractor, lost his life at Harden Quarry in Northumberland yesterday morning.
"Our thoughts are with Adam's family, friends and colleagues.
"We are co-operating fully with the authorities and supporting the Health and Safety Executive with their investigations, so cannot comment further at this stage."
