A MAN was taken to hospital with serious injuries after his car left the road and collided with a tree on Wednesday morning.
A Durham Police spokesman said emergency services were alerted to the accident on the B1283, between Haswell Plough and Shotton Colliery, at 8.30am.
He said: “A silver-grey Seat Ibiza was involved in the accident near the Blue House pub. The car has left the road and collided with a tree.
“One male driver, a 19-year-old from Houghton-le-Spring, was taken to the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough with pelvic injuries described as serious, but not life-threatening.”
The road remained closed while accident investigators inspected the scene. It re-opened shortly after 11am.
