A MAN has appeared in court charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving after two teenagers were found on the ‘Black Path’ in Stockton.

Michael Edward Gatenby did not enter any pleas to four charges when he appeared from custody at Teesside Magistrates’ Court this morning (Monday).

The 34-year-old, of Raglan Close, Stockton, was also charged with two counts of causing GBH with intent and a separate charge of ABH.

Two teenagers were found seriously injured on the ‘Black Path’, leading from Portrack Lane to Norton Road and close to the Stockton Tecaz store, on Friday morning.

The males, aged 16 and 19, were taken to James Cook University Hospital and were treated for “significant” injuries. They are described as being in a “stable” condition.

A third teenager, 16, received treatment at the University Hospital of North Tees for head and hand injuries in connection with the incident, but he has since been released.

The injured males were believed to have been riding a motorcycle which had been removed from the scene. A motorbike was later recovered by police officer.

Detectives arrested two other males on Friday, a 16-year-old boy and a 31-year-old man, who have been released on police bail pending further investigations.

Gatenby was remanded in custody by magistrates and will next appear at Teesside Crown Court on October 19.
