HUNDREDS of visitors celebrated wings and wheels at a North-East airfield this weekend.

Vintage vehicles and old military aircraft gathered at Fishburn Airfield, near Sedgefield, on Saturday and attracted visitors from all over the region.

It was the first time the event had taken place at the little-known airfield.

Although the misty weather conditions hampered some of the aircraft, one of the main attractions was a T6 Harvaard, which flew up from Duxford, for the event.

The camouflage aircraft was refurbished at the airfield two years ago.

Another exhibit was a replica Spitfire being built by John Rogerson, from Ferryhill.

Mr Rogerson hopes to have the plane airborne sometime next year.

Sam Woodgate, one of the airfield managers, said: “The event has gone extremely well.

“The vehicle turnout was fantastic, there was more than 100, but the wing side was slowed down by the fog.”
