Glossop NE 1 Spennymoor Town 1.

Spennymoor had to work hard with ten men to earn a replay against Glossop in their preliminary round FA Trophy tie on Saturday.

The game turned out to be as difficult as Moors expected against last season’s Vase finalists, especially as they had defender Paul Johnson sent off with half an hour left.

Manager Jason Ainsley said; “I don’t think we got much from the referee. It was a stop and start game. Paul Johnson only made two tackles, and he got a yellow card for each of them. Glossop got in our faces, and we got sucked into everything.

“I thought our two centre halves and keeper were excellent, and we defended well when we had to.”

Moors got off to an ideal start after just three minutes when James Risbrough had a shot blocked, but the ball ran loose nicely for Danny Frost to turn home.

But Glossop got back into the game on 25 minutes when a shot by Astley Mulholland was blocked, and tom Bailey scored from the rebound.

There weren’t many chances in the game after that. Glen Taylor went close for Moors at the start of the second half, but then they were reduced to ten men when Johnson was dismissed for his second bookable offence.

Moors held on well after that, although Glossop missed a couple of good chances to win the game.

The replay is on Tuesday at the Brewery Field.
