CUBS and Scouts learned traditional campfire songs for a fundraising effort.

The 1st Richmond pack held a sponsored campfire sing to raise money for the Diabetes Society.

The idea came from a Cub member, and leader Tracy Appleyard took it up because a fellow Scout leader suffers from the condition.

The event, which involved more than 30 Cubs and Scouts, was based near the Scout hut in Richmond's Ronaldshay Park.

The youngsters had to make do with a fake campfire, as park regulations would not allow them a real one.

"We are going to be singing for half an hour and we have practised about ten traditional campfire songs," said Miss Appleyard before the event.

"This is part of our scouting centenary celebrations."
