SHOPPING centre managers have reassured shoppers that its car park will remain open during urgent repair works to a historic bridge on a main route into a town centre.
Work to strengthen the “severely corroded” Stonebridge, in Darlington, is due to begin on October 5 and will take around a year to complete.
During the first phase of work, which is due to be completed by early December, the north side of the bridge going out of the town centre will be closed, with access limited to buses leaving the town centre.
Throughout the repairs, East Street, which is currently a one-way street out of town, will become a two-way street.
Susan Young, centre manager at the nearby Cornmill Centre, said: “We are keen to stress to the public that while the essential repair work to Stonebridge is underway, the Cornmill car park will remain open and an alternative access route to the car park via East Street will be available.”
The centre is offering five all day parking tickets for £10, or 11 all day tickets for £20.
Between Monday, November 30 and Thursday, December 31 the centre will also offer free parking after 3pm.
