A CELEBRATED artist is set to unveil a display of more than 100 of his favourite works from the world’s oldest open-submission exhibition.

Yorkshire-born Norman Ackroyd has selected some of his favourite pieces from the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, who past exhibitors have included Reynolds, Constable and Turner, to be showcased at the Zillah Bell Gallery, in Thirsk.

The Original Print Show, which runs at the Kirkgate gallery from tomorrow September 5 to October 31, will offer a snapshot of contemporary art and feature prints by leading artists including former Turner Prize nominee Ian Davenport, Barbara Rae, Michael Craig Martin and Fred Cuming.

It will include every genre of printmaking, from etchings, engravings, lithographs and screenprints to digital prints.

Mr Ackroyd said: “This is the second year I have been asked to curate this show.

“I thoroughly enjoy bringing the diversity and energy of contemporary printmaking up to my home county – and particularly to Zillah Bell where I have been exhibiting for over twenty years.”

Gallery manager Sarah Greenslade added: “The most democratic of art forms, print is an affordable art form which opens up serious art collecting to all, and this annual exhibition offers a chance to see a superbly curated selection by one of the world’s leading practitioners.”
