BUTCHERS from around the region have been invited to take part in this year’s Great Yorkshire Pork Pie, Sausage and Black Pudding Competition.

A new venue and format is in place this year for the contest, which has been thrown open to all butchers, farms shops and bakers in the UK who make products on their own premises.

It takes place at the Yorkshire Event Centre at the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate on Sunday, October 11. The contest will join the Craft Bakers and Butchers Extravaganza at the venue, forming a new showcase for butchers and bakers. The event will be opened by Yorkshire-born chef and author Brian Turner.

There will be three classes for pork pies and sausages and the supreme champion sausage will qualify for the 2016 National Champion of Champions Sausage Competition. There will also be a standalone black pudding championship class.

There will also be attractions for children and families and trade stands.
