INSPIRATIONAL Julie John has had her head shaved for Macmillan Cancer Support after surviving cancer twice, writes Beth Hughes.

Mrs John, 55, from Darlington was diagnosed with breast cancer four years ago in 2011.

Macmillan helped and supported her when she found out and continuously helped throughout her battle with cancer.

Mrs John was later diagnosed with skin cancer two years later and turned back to Macmillan for their help.

She described the charity as “supportive”.

Macmillan Cancer Support is a British charity that provides specialist care and financial support for people being affected by cancer.

The charity was there through all of Mrs John’s check-ups and was always just a phone call away when she needed them.

The idea was initially for Mrs John’s husband, Mark John, to have his hair shaved for the charity but Mrs John decided as her husband’s hair was already short it would have even more of an impact to do it herself.

She said: “I just wanted to give something back after everything they did for me”

The charity event took place today (September 1) with a hairdresser from Upper Cut Hairdressers in Darlington visiting to the couple's home.

More than £700 has been raised for the Macmillan charity with thanks to Mrs John’s family, friends and work colleagues supporting her to help raise money.
