WITNESSES to two suspected arson attacks in Darlington are being urged to come forward.

Investigations are continuing into two fires which appear to have been started deliberately at Darlington Town Hall and a social services building in North Lodge, off Northgate, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

As previously reported in The Northern Echo, a third fire also ravaged the roof of Carmel Medical Practice on Nunnery Lane, although officers could not confirm whether all three incidents were linked.

A joint investigation by Durham Police and County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service is currently underway to determine the cause of the fires, and Detective Inspector Audra Fawcett urged any witnesses to come forward.

Although nobody was available for comment at Carmel Medical Practice, a recorded phone message said: “Due to a fire at the weekend, the surgery is trying to put in a contingency plan so patients can be seen at other surgeries.

“This message will be updated as soon as we have more information.”

Anybody who can help police with their investigations is asked to call officers on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
