CASH prizes and trophies will be up for grabs for the best growers, bakers and creators at a village's traditional annual show this weekend.

Cornforth Annual Village Show will be held at Cornforth Community Centre, on Sunday, August 30 and Monday, August 31.

Classes will include vegetables including leeks, flowers and garden fruit, arts and crafts and handicrafts, preserves, cakes, photography and art.

Children's competitions will range from vegetable animals,, silly photographs and decorated eggs to butterfly cakes, embroidery, pottery and flower arrangements.

Exhibits need to be benched between 10am and noon on Sunday for judging to take place between noon and 4pm and all entries are free.

It will be open to the public from 4.30pm to 10.30pm on Sunday, and 2pm to 4pm on Monday, with a raffle draw late on Monday afternoon.

Any products not claimed at the end of the event will be donated to The Salvation Army.

The show is sponsored by local businesses and organisations including Cornforth Parish Council.

Council chairman Councillor Alan Hodgson said: "It is a traditional show which is always popular and we hope people enjoy."
