A MAN was taken to hospital after being rescued from a County Durham beck on Monday night.

The emergency services were called to deal with the incident at Old Durham Beck, near Shincliffe, Durham.

Three fire crews and a water rescue unit were sent to the scene at about 7.30pm.

County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to a report of a man in the water.

The service tweeted: "One male adult has been rescued by fire service personnel from the water near Houghall, taken to University Hospital North Durham."

Durham Police said the man who had stumbled and fallen.
