FRIENDS of a cathedral have donated £216,000 to support its work over the coming year.
The Friends of Durham Cathedral’s largest single donation was £125,500 to the £10m Open Treasure project, which aims to create now world-class exhibition spaces.
That adds to £590,000 already given to the appeal by the Friends.
The central tower will get £10,000 towards repairs – part of the £150,000 match funding needed to go alongside a £568,651 grant from the First World War Centenary Cathedral Repairs Fund.
The Friends will sponsor a light installation in the cathedral during November’s Lumiere festival to the tune of £10,000, £10,000 will be spent on new chairs and £10,000 will be spent on chorister bursaries.
The group also supports the library, education programme, woodlands and riverbanks and volunteer broderers. For further details, visit fodc.co.uk
