A GROUP of fearless flyers will take to the skies to raise funds for people living with brain injury.

Headway Darlington and District is organising the skydive later this month, with divers including solicitors as well as friends and relatives of people who have sustained a brain injury.

The group aim to raise enough cash to send brain injury survivors on an outdoor activity weekend in the Lake District next year. The purpose is to enable people with disabilities to enjoy outdoor activities in the countryside – gaining skills, confidence and new friends along the way.

Nicola Hughes, chairwoman of Headway Darlington and District, said: “Brain injury can happen to anyone at any time and can transform any aspect of a person.

"It can devastate lives, shatter families and leave people in desperate need of support.

"Headway is dedicated to providing continued support to survivors and their families to help them rebuild their lives.”

One of those taking part in the fundraising jump is solicitor Sara Clasper.

She works at Beecham Peacock Solicitors in Newcastle, a firm that acts for people who have sustained brain injury as a result of the negligence of others.

She said: “I’ve never done anything like this before, and I’m absolutely terrified! I just keep remembering why we’re doing it, and what a brilliant cause Headway is.”

Headway Darlington and District supports those living with brain injuries, and their families and carers.

The group holds monthly group sessions, as well as organising a range of other activities, to help people with brain injuries and their families come together and meet others in the same situation.

The jumps will take place at Durham Tees Valley Airport on August 23 and 31.
