DESIGNS for the revamp of a city park are to go on public display.

Wharton Park, in Durham City, is currently undergoing a £3m Lottery-funded refurbishment.

Designs for part of the project will be on show at the former tourist information centre in Millennium Place from September 7 to 11, between 10am and 4pm. Members of the public are invited to share their views on the proposals.

Meanwhile, people are invited to help mosaic artist Lorraine Udell create a centrepiece for a proposed community garden at County Hall on Friday, September 4 between 4.30pm and 6.30pm.

The Friends of Wharton Park will have a stall in Durham Market Place on Saturday, September 5 from 9am to 5pm and a children’s guide to the park is also in the making.

Updates on the project are being posted on the Friends’ Facebook page and online at friendsofwhartonpark.org.uk. More supporters and volunteers would always be welcome.

The park, one of the oldest public parks in the region, was gifted to the city by William Lloyd Wharton in the mid-19th century.

It is currently closed to allow for the refurbishment. The work on site, which began in February, is due to be completed next Spring.
