A MOTORCYCLIST has died following a collision with a car on one of the main routes across North Yorkshire.

The man, in his 60s, suffered serious injuries in the crash on the A170 near Thirsk and was then pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident happened at around 10am on Thursday at Scawton, around a mile from the top of Sutton Bank.

The man who died was riding a Triumph motorcycle which collided with a white Volkswagen Scirocco.

He was travelling in the company of two other motorcycles at the time the collision occurred.

Officers are now appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw any of the vehicles prior to the incident to contact them with information.
