A DRIVER had to be cut free by fire fighters after her vehicle left the road and overturned.
The accident happened shortly after 7am this morning (July 30) as the Nissan Qashqai was being driven along Pelton Lane, between Newfield and Grange Villa, in the Chester-le-Street area.
The car, which was the only vehicle involved in the accident, is believed to have hit a hedge and then overturned.
Two fire crews were sent to the incident and the driver, a 47-year-old woman, was cut free from the wreckage.
She was taken to the University Hospital of North Durham for treatment, although a police spokesman said her injuries were suspected to be non-serious.
The road was closed for around two hours following the accident.
