THE big screen experience is being taken to residents’ doorsteps this summer.

In a project funded by Spennymoor Area Action Partnership and provided by Leisureworks, a mobile cinema scheme is touring community venues in the Spennymoor area with two family films.

Dreamworks’ animated film Home, which has a PG certificate, will be at St Peter’s Church Hall, Byers Green, on Wednesday, August 26, at 2pm.

It has already been shown at Everyman Theatre and St Paul’s Centre, in Spennymoor, and Tudhoe Community Centre.

U-rated Shaun the Sheep Movie will be at Kirk Merrington Community Centre on Tuesday, August 4, at 2pm; St Andrew’s Church Hall, Tudhoe Grange, on Saturday, August 8, at 10.30am; and Byers Green Village Hall, on Wednesday, August 12, at 2pm.

Tickets are £1 on the door and refreshments are available, children must be accompanied.

The AAP supports projects that provide activities for children and young people and older people, which have been identified as priorities for the community, and to enable residents to enjoy a trip to the cinema without having to travel far and spend a lot.

It gave £14,340 to fund the mobile cinema following the success of a pilot project.

It wants to build on that success and provide a wider variety of films. During the summer school holidays the programme is aimed at younger people but will be expanded to suit wider audiences.
