THE Pub Landlord, Al Murray, is helping to take one of the North-East’s biggest events on tour for the very first time.

The popular comedian, who has fronted several TV shows and sell out tours across the UK, will be appearing at the North-East Oyster Festival on Friday September 25.

For the first time in its 12 years history the festival will be relocating from Hardwick Hall Hotel, County Durham to a specially erected marquee at Science Central, Newcastle, to coincide with the city’s hosting of the Rugby World Cup.

Al will be joined for the all-day event by legendary Motown act Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, whose hits include Heatwave, Jimmy Mack and Dancing in the Street, as well as the world’s leading bagpipe band, Red Hot Chilli Pipers.

This year’s Oyster Festival line-up, compered by comedian Steve Walls, will also feature performances by Celtic party bands, Dublin Raiders and the JJ Galway Band.

Guests at the event, organised annually by Ramside Estates, can enjoy a champagne reception, oyster stalls, complimentary lager, beer and wine and a three course fruit de mer dinner, prepared by the expert chefs.

Proceeds from the festival will be donated to Marie Curie, which supports people and families coping with a terminal illness.

John Adamson, Owner of Ramside Estates, said: “The North-East Oyster Festival is a highlight in the region’s social calendar with many guests returning year after year.

“This time we’re doing things a little differently and hope our relocation to Newcastle will allow more of the city’s businesses to enjoy all that this amazing event has to offer.”

Tickets for the North-East Oyster Festival, priced at £150 +VAT, are available by calling 01740 620253.
