STAINDROP Carnival will get underway this week.

The event, which almost folded through a lack of volunteers last year, is back on track after an appeal for committee members.

The carnival will kick off with their annual netball tournament at Staindrop Academy today (Monday, July 6), while a talent show night will be held on Wednesday, July 8, at Scarth Hall.

Saturday (July 11), is carnival day with the brass band playing from noon and a parade led by a collection of classic cars and followed by the procession of floats from Staindrop Primary School, at about 1.15pm.

A fun fair will also be held in the afternoon as well as pony rides, facepainting and games while the 3Sixty bicycle stunt team will also be performing and giving tips to children who bring their bikes along.

In Scarth Hall, craft competitions will be held along with refreshments and a variety of stalls.

On Sunday, July 12, a pet show will be held on the green from 10am followed by sports from 1pm and the annual duck race at 3pm.

Staindrop Carnival Committee chairwoman, Liz Cronin, said: β€œIt was a big thing last year because we were down to three committee members ad we put out a plea for help so now we have 11 members.”
