AN EXHIBITION spotlighting the artistic talents of pupils in east Durham has gone on display.

The show, entitled Gardening can be viewed at The Art Block, Church Street, Seaham.

It is the culmination of a project led by East Durham Artists Network (Edan) members Jean Lowes and Victoria Leeks at the town’s Ropery Walk and Westlea primary schools.

The works by Year 3 and Year 5/6 pupils is connected with their studies of “mini-beasts” and with the renovation of the gardens around the Art Block.

Mrs Lowes said: “We got a small grant from the Royal Horticultural Society to plant a small area in front of the gallery and thought we would make gardening the theme of an arts project.

About 50 children took part in the project.

The exhibition runs until July 4 and The Art Block is open from 11am to 3pm Tuesday to Saturday.
