AIRBORNE life-savers are appealing for support of the public in their bid to turn England’s biggest county yellow.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance, a registered charity, has to raise at least £12,000 every day to keep its two helicopters in the air and in tip-top condition.

And following its hugely successful Yellow Yorkshire Campaign last year, the charity is now encouraging schools, businesses, community groups and other organisations to have some more yellow-themed fun on July 3.

The charity’s regional fund-raising manager Bob Smailes said: “We had a brilliant response last year from people across North Yorkshire who held a wide range of events – from yellow themed bake sales to static yellow bike challenges.

“We’re hoping as many people as possible will get behind Yellow Yorkshire Day 2015, raising as much as they can for us but also having lots of fun in the process.”

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance is an independent charity which provides a rapid response emergency service to five million people across Yorkshire, attending more than1,000 missions a year – an average of three a day.

But although it costs some £4.4m a year to run, the service receives no direct government funding. The only assistance the charity receives is through the secondment of its paramedics from the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust.
