A DRINKER is behind bars for a bout of indiscriminate threats and violence after he was thrown out of a bar.

Terry Fowler headbutted a window, punched taxis, thumped a bus stop and waved a knife in the street during the late-night drama.

The 24-year-old threatened to stab doormen who had ejected him from Perry's on High Street, Norton, near Stockton, last month.

He took off his top and was bare-chested before police turned up and struggled to arrest him, Teesside Crown Court heard.

One of the doormen picked up a roadside advertising board and used it as a shield as Fowler made stabbing gestures at him.

He walked past people shouting “I’ll kill you, come on”, brandishing the knife, making threats and making cutting motions.

Prosecutor Rachel Masters said when police arrived, he pointed the weapon at them and refused to put it down.

He was twice sprayed with CS gas before he was hit with an asp, and taken to the ground despite “significant resistance”.

Alex Bousfield, mitigating, said: “Mr Fowler’s recollection of this is almost non-existent.

“He has expressed remorse and is sorry for the behaviour and upset that he caused to people.

“He accepts clearly that his behaviour on this occasion has caused significant distress.

“He cannot explain why he had the knife. He tells me he’s very disappointed in himself, as are his family."

Fowler, of Centenary Road, Norton, admitted threatening people with a blade and affray, and was jailed for two years.

The judge, Recorder Simon Batiste, told him: “You’ve already acquired a dreadful record.

“It’s clear that alcohol doesn’t agree with you and when you’re in alcohol you behave as a thug.

“Anyone who was nearby to this would have been absolutely terrified."
