STUDENTS are to take on their teachers in an annual charity football match that aims to raise funds for the Nepal earthquake appeal.

The teams will be drawn from Bishop Auckland College for the annual match.

This year the event is being used to help those who were left devastated by the earthquake which hit the Himalayas last month.

Rob Graham, the college’s sport development officer, said: “Come along and support the event.

“We had an audience of over 140 last year, so it would be great if we could beat that this year.”

The match is at Bishop Auckland Football Club’s Heritage Park ground.

The students have raised sponsorship to take part and the staff paid £10 to play. An appeal is also being made for ball boy and girls to take part for a £2 donation.

Former top flight referee Nigel Miller, of Esh Winning, who ran the line at the 2003 FA Cup final between Arsenal and Southampton, will officiate.

This year the funds raised will be split between several charities, including the Disasters Emergency Committee and the college’s student hardship fund.

Children from Cockton Hill Infant School, in Bishop Auckland, will act as mascots.

The match kicks off at 6pm on Friday (May 15) with entry £2 and children under-18 free. There will be family activities taking place from 5pm.

Any parents of children who wish to be ball boys or girls at the match should contact Mr Graham via 01388-443069 or email Rob.Graham@bacoll.ac.uk
