A TAKEAWAY worker raped a woman twice, ignoring her repeated pleas for him to stop, after finding himself alone with her in a flat.

Karzan Taha Sharif was jailed for six years and eight months after a court heard of concerns over his views as to, “sexual entitlement”.

Sharif, a 25-year-old Kurd, who was granted asylum after coming to Britain in 2008, is expected to now serve half of that sentence before being deported.

Until the incident late last year he worked in a pizza takeaway restaurant, in Bishop Auckland.

Durham Crown Court heard that police were alerted after the complaints of rape were made following the incident on November 11.

The court was told the victim, who was staying at a friend’s flat, came out of a shower and discovered Sharif in the lounge area after others who had been present earlier left the premises.

Paul Reid, prosecuting, said the woman thought he too would leave, but he stayed and watched television before carrying out the attack.

Although she tried to push him away he continued, despite her begging him to stop at least ten times.

Mr Reid said Sharif suddenly got up and went to the bathroom, “as if nothing had happened.”

He then returned and dragged the woman by the wrist to the kitchen where he raped her again despite her further pleas for him to stop.

When the ordeal ended Sharif told her to have a shower, but she fled from the flat, putting on a pair of men’s shoes found near the door.

She went to her boss’ work premises and asked him for his car keys, locking herself in the vehicle while she rang friends to tell them what had taken place.

When arrested, Sharif, previously of Forebondgate, Bishop Auckland, claimed the sexual behaviour was consensual, but at an earlier hearing admitted two counts of rape and one of sexual assault.

Lewis Kerr, mitigating, told the sentencing hearing that the background probation report highlighted problems with his views as to sexual entitlement.

But Mr Kerr added, Sharif appeared to show some contrition, fearing he may have “messed her life up”.

Sharif appeared in court via video link from nearby Durham Prison, where he has been detained for six months since the incident.

Jailing him, Judge Simon Hickey told Sharif his sustained assault had a “profound impact” on the victim.

Although the court heard he is likely to be deported, he was made subject to lifelong registration as a sex offender.
