A 22-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after crashing his car in a village.

The man was driving through Middridge, near Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, last night (Monday, May 4) when he lost control of his silver Peugeot 206 and crashed.

Police were called to the scene at 9.15pm and the male, from Newton Aycliffe, was taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough where he failed blood tests.

The nature of his injuries has not been confirmed but earlier this morning Durham Police’s road policing unit tweeted: "Male from earlier rtc (road traffic collision) in Middridge now in custody and thanked officers by swearing at us and calling us a waste of space. You're welcome!"

No other people were involved in the accident.
