A FARMER repeatedly targeted by thieves says he feels scared after his farm was burgled again by two men in the middle of the night.

Nathan Robbie Buckland appeared in court today (Wednesday, April 22), jointly charged with Lee Edward Allen for burgling a farm near Bishopton.

Buckland, 21, and Allen, 28, who are both from Newton Aycliffe, each admitted one charge of burglary that took place during the early hours of Saturday, April 11.

Tahria Bouchier, prosecuting, said: “At around 2.25am police were made aware of suspicious activity at the farm, these two defendants were seen trying to place items into a vehicle, including an industrial strength pressure washer and horse riding equipment.

“The pressure washer was left in a secure area and bolt poppers were used to secure entry. The riding equipment belonged to a lady who rents a stable from the farmer.

“The victim said the incident has left him annoyed and upset. He is a repeat victim and has been targeted on several different occasions.

“He is scared knowing that property on his farm is not safe anymore and he will have to pay to secure the farm again which will leave him out of pocket.”

Peter Hamill, mitigating for Allen, said: “He tells me that it was something that happened out of opportunity. It is not a sophisticated offence and all of the property has been returned to the victim.”

John Turner, for Buckland, added: “The defendant is an ex serviceman who was discharged honourably from the army. He has never been involved with the police in any way and is of exemplary character.”

The case was adjourned for pre-sentence reports to be carried out by probation and both men were given unconditional bail.

Buckland, of Lumley Close, is due back at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates Court on April 29, while Allen, of Linden Place, is due back on May 13.
