TENANTS are getting training on making their money go further.
Monkey, funded by the Big Lottery Fund, is working with social housing providers and voluntary sector organisations in County Durham to run budgeting skills training courses.
More than 400 people will learn about saving and managing money.
Derwentside Homes will run accredited six-week courses on budgeting and money management for 60 people in Stanley and Consett.
SHAID (Single Homeless Action Initiative in Durham) plans to run budgeting courses for 100 young people and people who are to reach.
The homes and communities business, livin, will offer new tenants in need of support tailored courses using tablets to help them build their confidence in navigating the Internet and making savings online.
East Durham Homes is focusing money management training on people in rural communities and areas where access to banks and financial services is harder
Monkey project manager Fiona Christian said: “We are delighted to be supporting our partners to run these sessions.
“Many people have been hit hard with squeezed incomes over the last few years – these courses show that even on a tight budget you can take control of your finances and make your money go further.”
