THE Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu is to preach at the ancient St Augustine’s parish church at Kirkby in Cleveland later this month.

His visit is in support of planned celebrations to mark the 200th anniversary of the rebuilding of the Grade II-listed church in 1815.

A programme of events to commemorate the occasion over the weekend of April25/26 will include an exhibition of church documents, artifacts and photographs, a concert by the Michaelmas Singers and. Dr Sentamu will preach at the Sunday morning service.

Roy Parsonage, who has been organist at the church for the past 30 years, said: "There has been a church on this site for more than 1,000 years beginning with the Saxons, then replaced by the Normans and finally it became a Mediaeval church. The foundations of the original building were discovered a few years ago.
