A NURSERY owner has thanked parents for their support after it went from an ‘inadequate’ rating to ‘good’ in just a matter of months.

Puddleducks Childcare on Yarm High Street was ranked good in all areas by Ofsted inspector, who praised how well the early years provision meets the needs of children, and the effectiveness of the leadership and management.

The two-grading rise follows a previous inspection in November when Puddleducks was given the lowest Ofsted rating of four for the quality and

standards of its early years provision.

Inspectors raised concerns then about potential tripping hazards and obstacles on stairs and rated it ‘inadequate’ in all areas.

The inspection was carried out after Ofsted received a complaint “that raised concerns about the safeguarding and welfare of children” at Puddleducks.

But in the latest Ofsted report inspectors said “staff ensure the setting is safe and secure for children to play in... This means children are kept

safe”.

The report went on: “The quality of teaching is good. Skilled and qualified staff provide an interesting range of activities, which capture children’s

curiosity and imagination. As a result, all children make good progress from their starting points.

Inspectors also recognised that procedures for the recruitment of new staff were effective.

Owner Deb Wright said everyone at the nursery “had worked together as a team” to bring about the rapid improvement.

She said: “I was disappointed last time but I was confident we could turn it around.

“Not a single parent left, they have all been really supportive - a lot even wrote to Ofsted after the last inspection. I want to thank parents for how they have supported us over the last few months.”
