TWO of Sunderland’s legendary 1973 FA Cup winners are taking to the golf course for a regional children’s charity.

Micky Horswill and Richie Pitt will play in a charity golf day on Monday, May 11, to raise money for Hope 4 Kidz.

The event, at Houghton- le-Spring Golf Club, will see teams of four compete on the club’s 18-hole, championship course.

“I have been involved with Hope 4 Kidz for a number of years now and the work they do is invaluable,” said Mr Horswill, a patron of Hope 4 Kidz.

“The golf tournament is a great way to raise funds for such an important cause, we need as many teams as possible to take part so that the charity can continue to support special needs children in the North-East.”

The golf day will include a light breakfast, an evening meal and a Q & A session with the players along with a raffle, auction and a mystery door prize draw.

Viv Watts, chief executive of Hope 4 Kidz, said: “Sunderland’s Former Players Association have supported Hope 4 Kidz on numerous occasions and we can’t thank them enough for everything they have done.”

“It’s a fabulous gesture to be nominated as the beneficiary of this golf day. It’s not only great for the charity but good fun for everyone who is involved too.”

The two ex-players will present prizes to the winning team, the best individual player and nearest the pin.

Hope 4 Kidz helps children and young people across the North-East who suffer from severe illnesses or disabilities along with those facing poverty or abuse.

Entry costs £150. Contact Hope 4 Kidz on 0191-534-7788 or e-mail vivien.watts@hope4kidz.org.uk or Winston Young on 07752 849711 or e-mail sfpawinstonyoung@hotmail.co.uk
