A DRIVER in his early 40s escaped serious injury after overturning his car in Middlesbrough.

Stainton Way, in Coulby Newham, Middlesbrough, was closed for about four hours after a black Peugeot 206 left the road and overturned on Sunday morning.

It was the only vehicle involved in the accident. Police closed the road from Hornsea Road to Low Lane.

A Cleveland Police spokesman said: "The male driver of the car, aged in his early 40s, was taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough with non life threatening injuries.

"There were no passengers in the vehicle and no other vehicles were involved.

"The road was closed to recover the vehicle and make the area safe, and the road reopened at around 10.30am."

Passing motorists stopped to check on the condition of the driver before police arrived.
