A FAMILY escaped their burning home after an electrical fault caused a blaze in a converted loft.
The fire started in the attic area of a loft on Cambrian Road, Billingham, Teesside, on Saturday at about 7.15pm.
No-one was hurt in the incident and grandparents and grandchildren had escaped the property before four fire engines from Stockton, Billingham and Middlesbrough, arrived.
The attic area was damaged by smoke and there was some fire damage.
It took fire crews about an hour to put out the blaze and there was some damage to the roof void of the house next door.
Stockton fire station watch manager Stuart Simpson said the fire had started in the converted loft, caused by an electrical fault.
