KINDHEARTED customers at a Darlington supermarket have helped to make Easter eggstra special for needy and vulnerable families.

Shoppers at Asda stores across Darlington have been donating chocolate treats for the food store at King’s Church, in Whessoe Road.

The volunteer-run food store often becomes a lifeline for people who cannot feed themselves due to financial difficulties or a family crisis, and also distributes food from St Mary’s Church, St Andrew’s and St Columba’s Church.

The collection was arranged by Asda store’s community life champion, Louise Gibson, who said: “ I regularly help out at the food bank for my role as community life champion and I was happy to nominate the food bank for our appeal, knowing how much joy a little chocolate egg can bring for the families and single parents who rely on the food bank.

“I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who contributed.”

The supermarket will also be holding a number of Easter activities on Good Friday, and Easter Saturday, including a decorate a paste egg competition.
