THE number of new homes being registered in the North-East has increased year-on-year, new figures show.

Between December last year and February this year there were 1,044 such registrations, according to the National House Building Council (NHBC).

This compared to 815 in the same period 12 months ago. In Yorkshire and Humberside the number of new homes being registered year-on-year had almost doubled from 1,482 to 2,708, the organisation revealed.

Its chief executive Mike Quinton said: “Our latest figures clearly show that registrations are on up on 2014 levels for the last three months, which is great news for the industry.

“However, we have been clear that we are building way below the level of homes that our country so desperately needs, therefore it is important that we keep up this momentum."
