THE achievements of Darlington’s young people were celebrated at a glittering ceremony on Tuesday.

Hundreds of people packed the Civic Theatre for the 20th annual Vibe Awards.

Proud families were on hand to watch as talented youngsters from across the town were recognised for their hard work and efforts.

The awards were organised by Darlington Borough Council to honour those who have achieved against the odds and those who have worked to change their lives and the lives of those around them.

More than 300 young people received Vibe Awards at the ceremony, which saw winners chosen from categories including Contribution to the Community, Contribution to the Arts, Achievement against the Odds in Life and Achievement against the Odds in Learning.

The lively event was punctuated with performances from dance, theatre and singing groups with more than 200 young people taking to the stage from Dimensions Dance, Stagecoach, Redhall Dance Company, Inspire Beyond Dance Group and the QE Rock Choir.

Cyndi Hughes, Darlington Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said:

"The Vibe Awards are a great night and a chance to celebrate all the good work our young people do.

“These young people are a credit to themselves, their families, their schools and their community."

The Vibe Awards were sponsored by organisations including Darlington Building Society, The Northern Echo and Darlington College.

Darlington Lions sponsored the evening’s entertainment.

Full details of the event will be published in The Northern Echo on Thursday.
