A FORMER school teacher has returned to her old school to view the facilities as the Lord Lieutenant of Durham.

Sue Snowdon, the Lord Lieutenant of Durham, visited Chilton Primary School more than 25-years after she left the school.

When Mrs Snowdon was a teacher in Chilton the school was based on Durham Road but it has since being rebuilt elsewhere in the town.

Her visit coincided with World Book Day and the school had taken David Walliams book Ratburger as its theme.

The pupils dressed as characters from the book and Mrs Snowdon helped to judge their efforts.

Christine Samways, the school’s business manager, said: “She spoke about the history of the school. The children and Mrs Snowdon enjoyed the day.”
