A HOTEL has announced plans for a major investment this summer.

The Travelodge group is to invest £115,000 in a modernisation of its hotel at Chester-le-Street

The 20-bed hotel in Chester Moor, which is popular with spectators visiting the nearby Durham County Cricket Club stadium, is to undergo a significant makeover which will include a new room design and larger beds in each room.

There will also be a refurbishment of the hotel’s reception area and additional truckle beds for children are to be installed in all family rooms.

Refurbishment work is expected to take two weeks and will be completed this summer.

The refurbishment is part of a national £100m investment programme by Travelodge.

The company has already announced plans to open a further 15 hotels across the country this year, and says it has identified potential for another 150 hotels across the country, creating up to 3,000 new jobs.

Chester-le-Street Travelodge opened in 2010 and currently employs seven staff.

Hotel manager Dean Carr said: “We are well underway with our plans to build new Travelodge.

“We’re investing more than £100m on modernising our hotels for our customers and it is great news that Chester-le-Street Travelodge is to benefit.”

“In 2014, at Chester-le-Street Travelodge we enjoyed double digit growth due to the rise in business and leisure customers switching to us.

“Our new modernised hotel will ensure that we continue to grow sales and become the favourite hotel for value in the area.”
