TWO men were stabbed after a late-night fight broke out in a house and spilled over into the street.

Detectives are now appealing for witnesses to the disturbance in Chester-le-Street which left two men in hospital.

The incident took place at around 10pm on Thursday (Feb 19) when a fight broke out at a house in Pine Street, in the town centre.

During the incident two men, aged 29 and 24, suffered stab wounds and were taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead for treatment.

Police believe the two men had been fighting each other for an unknown reason and several other people from within the premises, both male and female also became involved.

The incident started in the house before spilling out onto the street, where damage was also caused to a Yamaha scooter parked outside.

A total of five men were arrested and interviewed, before being released on police bail while enquiries continue.

Detective Constable Alex Simms, of Durham Police, said: “This was a serious incident which started in the house and then carried on outside.

“I am appealing for anyone who may have seen what happened to contact the police or Crimestoppers.”
